Cloughmore is Irish for Big Stone. This
30-ton granite rock exactly what it's
name states. It's perched on the slopes
of Slieve Martin, 1000ft above the village
of Rostrevor. It's existence came about
by retreating glaciers during the ice age.
Local legend tells a different story. The
tale of the giant stone being tossed
across Carlingford Lough from the
Cooley mountains during a fight between
legendary Irish giant Finn McCool and
his archrival Ruscaire, known as the Ice
Giant.
